The Olde Canal Inn is a historic country inn built in 1826 on the Delaware River at the time that steamboats were king and the primary mode of transportation. This inn served as a hotel for important government officials , business leaders and gentry. It was a primary respite for travelers going between Philadelphia, Baltimore and New York. It has been restored to its original glory. The inn is on the National Trust Historic Register and is located on the waterfront in a Registered Historic District. A number of historic sites are adjacent and visible from the inn. These include Fort Delaware, Fort Dupont, Fort Mott, the Original Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, the Delaware City waterfront ( now a park) and the port at Old New Castle. A multitude of other area and regional attractions are a short distance away from the inn's serene location. Magnificent views abound from the windows at the inn.
